Satin moth

Leucoma salicis

Satin moth (Leucoma salicis) is an insect pest. It is a native of Europe and Asia and was first detected in New England in 1920.

The satin moth is a frequent defoliator of shade and park. Young larvae skeletonize large leaves during the latter part of summer and heavy defoliation over several years results in topkill and tree mortality.
