Japanese pine sawyer

Monochamus alternatus

Japanese pine sawyer (Monochamus alternatus) is an insect pest of non-native pine trees. It is a native of Japan and was first detected in Mississippi in 2020.

Carrier of the pine wilt nematode, which causes wilt disease of non-native pine trees. This is just one of many forest pests that are moved to un-infested forests by humans moving firewood. Help protect our forests: don't move firewood!
