Japanese apple rust
Gymnosporangium yamadae

Japanese apple rust (Gymnosporangium yamadae) is a fungal pathogen of Junipers and Apples. It was first detected in Delaware in 2009.

This rust alternately infects its hosts. In junipers it forma an orange ball with tentacles and releases spores which then cause yellow spots on apple leaves. This can cause economic losses in fruit production.
