Identification
ID/Diagnostic: Morphological
Morphological: R. cerasi can be distinguished from many of the Rhagoletis species present in North America by the combination of its predominantly blackish body and its wing pattern.
Mistaken Identities:
Not present in U.S.: Rhagoletis berberidis
There are three Rhagoletis species found in North America that infest cherries: R. cingulata, R. indifferens, and R. fausta. (black cherry fruit fly) (USDA, 1983).
