Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) is an invasive weed of fresh water. It is a native of Brazil and was first detected in Lousiana in 1884.

Sold as an ornamental for aquariums, this weed grows quickly, forming clogging mats of vegetation when released in freshwater.
