Large pine weevil
Large pine weevil (Hylobius abietis) is an insect pest of conifer trees.
The large Pine weevil Hylobius abietis is one of the most harmful forest pests of temperate regions. It is a pest of many species of coniferous trees, particularly Sitka spruce, Scots Pine and Larch. It is also a pest of several broadleaf species. Eggs are laid in cut tree stumps where the larvae feed for several years. Adults emerge and feed on the tender bark of young saplings. This is just one of many forest pests that are moved to un-infested forests by humans moving firewood. Help to protect our forests: don't move firewood!
