The Giant African Land Snail (GALS) has been smuggled into the US in the pet trade and for religious purposes. The snail harbors human parasites and damages crops and structures. The program has cost Floridians millions of dollars. Canine detectors are being trained to locate snails. It will be years before the snails might be considered eradicated.
